Preparations for the sixth edition of the Bahrain International Film Festival have reached an advanced stage, with this year’s event introducing a significant milestone as its Official Competition expands to welcome international submissions for the first time, according to Ammar Zainal, Artistic Director of the festival.
Zainal revealed that the festival received 894 film submissions from 55 countries, underscoring the growing international recognition the festival continues to attract. He described the expansion of the Official Competition beyond national boundaries as an important step in the festival’s ongoing development and a reflection of its evolving ambitions.
He explained that this year’s edition will present a comprehensive programme of workshops, panel discussions, and accompanying activities, with a particular emphasis on supporting and empowering Bahraini filmmakers. Further details of these initiatives will be announced in the coming weeks.
The sixth edition is also expected to welcome an outstanding group of filmmakers, industry professionals, and artists from Bahrain and abroad, further strengthening the festival’s role as a meeting point for cinematic exchange and cultural dialogue.
According to Zainal, the festival’s international direction is guided by a clear vision to advance Bahrain’s film industry and introduce Bahraini cinema to wider audiences around the world. By fostering collaboration and meaningful engagement with filmmakers from different countries, the festival seeks to create new opportunities for artistic exchange while showcasing Bahraini storytelling on the global stage.
He added that the festival continues to establish regional and international partnerships that support its long-term objectives and broaden its reach. These collaborations are intended to open new avenues for Bahraini filmmakers, providing greater opportunities for professional development, international exposure, and creative collaboration.
Zainal also noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has long championed the values of openness, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence, and said the Bahrain International Film Festival forms part of the Kingdom’s wider cultural landscape. Through cinema, the festival reflects Bahrain’s commitment to creativity while celebrating the richness of cultural diversity.
The festival had previously announced the eligibility criteria for its Official Competition, which is open to both emerging and established filmmakers. Eligible films must have been completed after 1 January 2024 and must not have been publicly released in cinemas, on television, or through online streaming platforms. Filmmakers may submit more than one film, provided that each entry does not exceed 30 minutes in length. The Official Competition features five categories: Bahraini Films, International Short Narrative Films, Documentary Films, Animated Films, and Student Films.

أكد المدير الفني لمهرجان البحرين السينمائي الدولي عمار زينل أن تحضيرات الدورة السادسة لمهرجان البحرين السينمائي الدولي لهذا العام شهدت خطوات متقدمة وتحولات نوعية في مسابقة المهرجان لتصبح المشاركات دولية. وكشف زينل أن إدارة المهرجان تلقت 894 مشاركة من 55 دولة حول العالم، مشيراً إلى أن الدورة السادسة شهدت تحولاً نوعياً في مسابقة المهرجان، حيث أصبحت دولية هذا العام
وأوضح أن الدورة ستضم باقة من الورش التدريبية والندوات والبرامج المصاحبة التي تستهدف دعم وتشجيع صناع الأفلام البحرينيين بالدرجة الأولى، مشيراً إلى أنه سيتم الإعلان عن تفاصيل هذه البرامج خلال الفترة المقبلة
كما أضاف أنه من المتوقع أن تشهد الدورة السادسة حضوراً نوعياً ولافتاً لنجوم الفن وصناع السينما من داخل البحرين وخارجها، بما يعزز من مكانة المهرجان كمنصة سينمائية وثقافية تجمع مختلف التجارب والخبرات
وبيّن زينل أن التوجه الدولي للدورة الجديدة يأتي انطلاقاً من رؤية تهدف إلى الارتقاء بصناعة الفيلم البحريني، وإيصال الصوت السينمائي البحريني إلى العالم، من خلال خلق مساحات للتفاعل والتعاون مع تجارب سينمائية متنوعة من مختلف الدول
وأردف أن المهرجان يعمل على بناء شراكات إقليمية ودولية تحقق أهدافه وتسهم في توسعة وتعزيز حضوره، بما يفتح آفاقاً أوسع أمام صناع الأفلام البحرينيين ويمنحهم فرصاً أكبر للتطوير والانتشار
وفي ذات السياق أشار زينل إلى أن مملكة البحرين نجحت على الدوام في إيصال رسائل السلام والانفتاح إلى العالم، مؤكداً أن مهرجان البحرين السينمائي يمثل جزءاً من هذه المنظومة الثقافية والحضارية التي تعكس صورة البحرين كحاضنة للإبداع والتنوع الثقافي
وكانت إدارة مهرجان البحرين السينمائي قد حددت شروط المشاركة للمسابقة الرسمية، التي تشمل السماح بالمشاركة لجميع المخرجين وصناع الأفلام من هواة ومحترفين، عبر الأعمال المنتجة بعد 1 يناير 2024 والتي لم يسبق عرضها سينمائياً أو تلفزيونياً أو عبر منصات الإنترنت، مع إمكانية المشاركة بأكثر من فيلم على ألا تتجاوز مدته 30 دقيقة. كما تتضمن المسابقة خمس فئات رئيسة: الأفلام البحرينية، الأفلام الروائية القصيرة، الأفلام الوثائقية، أفلام التحريك، وفئة أفلام الطلبة
